How to play the Pinata Game

The piñata party game is bound to be the highlight of the adult or children’s, indoor or outdoor party that you are hosting.  It’s a great game for birthdays or any other occasions looking for a bit of extra fun.  Traditionally the piñata game is played outdoors, but can also be played in an auditorium, garage or other appropriately sized indoor facility.  If you designated game area is small we suggest you check out our pull string piñata game.

1. Before enjoying your piñata make sure you have the following: a place to hang the piñata (such as a tree branch, overhead beam, 2 adults holding a rope or pole with the piñata hanging in the middle, or a basketball hoop), a rope, candy and/or toy stuffers ( large confetti can be included), and a piñata buster stick and blindfold for the piñata participants.

2. Before your party, fill the piñata with the goodies so the guests wont know what surprises it holds.  This creates an element of surprise for all the participants.

3. You may use the piñata as a cheerful centerpiece before the game begins.  Just take the piñata to the designated game area and hang when you are ready to begin playing the game.

4. Have the kids form a line, from smallest all the way to the tallest one.  Children over 3 years old are traditionally blindfolded, spun around a few times, handed the piñata buster stick and encouraged to hit the piñata.  A blindfold is not required if the child is very young.

5. All other children must be kept away (we recommend a 15’ minimum radius) from the hitter for safety’s sake.  Furthermore, before you allow the other children to grab the goodies, ensure that the hitting of the piñata has ceased. This safety instruction cannot be emphasized enough and is of the greatest importance.

6. Before moving on to the next child, allow each participant to hit the piñata at least a few times.

7. To make the piñata game even more fun, swing the piñata up and down, also guests are encouraged to misdirect the hitter (if the piñata is up, tell them it is down, etc.)

8. You may also want to have extra candy to throw into the designated game area after the piñata is broken open to ensure that all the children have gotten candy at the end of the game.
